About FreeVote
A new way to follow, and vote on, the debates shaping America
FreeVote is a news and voting platform built around today's biggest debates. We bring together different sides, make the arguments easy to follow, and let you decide who wins.
How it works
We take the stories and questions people are talking about, and lay out two (or more) sides of the discussion.
These arguments are short and straightforward, with the option to dig deeper into questions and rebuttals.
Then, you vote.
We tally the results, account for differences in the voting pool*, and show you which side came out on top – and why.
*For example, if one group is dramatically overrepresented, we adjust for that imbalance rather than simply counting raw votes.

Why is it called 'FreeVote'?
Our name comes from parliamentary systems like the UK’s, where legislators almost always vote with their party. Occasionally, however, a free vote is called, where members are allowed to set aside the party line and vote according to their own judgment and values.
That’s the idea here, too. Your vote, and you decide for yourself.
